ski: mt fuji
To climb Mt Fuji is a great acheivement, but to ski down it is to truly experience an adventure in this exotic land. Our ski Mt Fuji expedition is a four day adventure that gives us time to practice, climb, ski and if time permits, explore the ancient forests at the base of the mountain.
This is an expedition for experienced skiers who are fit and healthy. You should be comfortable in steep and potentially icy terrain and you may be climbing and skiing for up to 7 hours per day at altitude. Downhill skiing equipment and downhill skiing boots are not appropriate for this expedition. Alpine skis with alpine skiing boots or telemark skis with plastic telemark boots are ideal.
The height of Mt Fuji (3775m) also dictates to us the pace at which we must travel. On this climb our guide will train you in proper climbing techniques and monitor team participants acclimatisation.
We have allocated four days for this expedition and we expect to use day one as a training day, day two to climb to about stage 8 or about 2900m. Weather permitting day three will be our summit day and just like our summer hike, our aim is to reach the summit by sunrise. This loose timetable is of course dependent on both the weather and snow conditions and the progress of the partiicpants. If time permits, day four will see us hike and ski back down the old trails through the ancient forests at the base of Mt Fuji to the Sengen shrine, the home of the deities who guard Mt Fuji.
Our season for this clmb is from late March to late May and can be taken anytime during this season depending on availability of guides. Contact us today to to arrange a ski Mt Fuji expediton.
